For almost two decades, enterprises worldwide and in all sectors of the economy have been reaping the benefits of the Internet. Today, however, data usage is increasing at an exponential rate due to the rise of cloud computing. Enterprises are seeking to virtualize their services and move applications off the desktop in order to better manage client computers and control data security.
This trend demands the availability of much more physical transmission capacity to and from data centers and between campus buildings. And that capacity must be readily scalable, as well. Finally, the data transmission infrastructure must ensure high security to eliminate the possibility of data breaches and, in many cases, must accommodate the presence of traditional TDM alongside IP.
